Mangaluru, August 18, 2019: Police have beefed up security in the coastal districts following a tipoff from Centre-based intelligence agencies.  The security officials have stepped up vigil at major installations such as airports, railway stations, dams, power stations, naval base, IT sectors and hospitals in the region.

Fishermen of the coastal region have been told to keep an eye on the boats in their vicinity and report if they come across any suspicious movement, persons or boats in the region.

As the perpetrators of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack in 2008 had entered the country through sea route, Navy, Coast Guard and the Coastal Security Police are keeping a close watch on the boats operating in the region.

“Based on the intimation from the Deputy Commissioner, fishermen have been sensitised. If they find any suspicious incident, persons or fishing boats, they have been asked to the bring it to the notice of the police,” a fishermen leader told Deccan Chronicle.

“The fishing boats will keep a watch on the boats in the sea and also the islands. As the attackers in Mumbai had come using Indian boats, our fishermen in the shore will monitor the landing points and boats entering the wharf. Fishermen will also monitor those in their nearby fishing boats,” he added.

In coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada security and checking has been intensified in installations such as airport, railway stations, IT companies, hospitals and also famous temples. Security agencies are focusing on power generation stations, dams and naval base.
