Mangalore, July 14, 2011: A 20-year-old woman called Surakshitha of Mogaru Kukkatte in Ganjimutt was admitted to SCS Hospital on July 14 Thursday. She had sustained serious injuries after an attempt of rape by Azarruddin, a teenaged boy in the neighbourhood.
Karunakar, Surakshita’s uncle, told reporters that he had gone for work as usual. He got a distress call from Surakshita on his way to work and had returned home immediately. He reached home to find her in a pathetic condition with her clothes torn.
She told her uncle that their neighbour Azarruddin (aged19) had come to borrow onions and tomatoes when he had gone for work. She gave him what he wanted. However Azarrudin stayed back talking pleasantries. He expressed his desire to see her newborn baby. When she turned around to get go to the room, he caught hold of her and tried to embrace her. When she screamed, he tore her cloths and put his hand over her mouth, pulled her hair, and rammed her head against the wall.
A neighbour saw Azar going to their house but did not expect him to do any harm or behave in this manner said Karunakara. Surakshita’s father, who is also called Karunakara, said that Azzaruddin was a regular visitor to their house and that he was always fighting with his parents at home.
Devdas, Surakshita’s husband, who resides in Thokkottu, said that Surakshita had been staying in her house after giving birth to their child since few months. He said that he had never seen Azzaruddin.
Azarruddin is gone absconding.
