The deceased boy is Sharath(16), the only son of Ramesh Acharya of BC Road Ganadapadpu. He was a class X student of Kalladka Sri Rama High School. His school mate Prajwal (16), a resident of Marnabail however was lucky enough to survive after he made a futile bid to save his friend who was drowning.

It is learnt, Prajwal who too was about to drown in a bid to save his friend was rescued by Vinod Raj, a resident of Arasikere who was washing clothes nearby. Though Vinodraj had immediately  lifted Sharath from the water, he had died by then.

It is learnt, both the boys did not know swimming but still ventured into the water on Saturday afternoon. Bantwal Police officials rushed to the spot  and shifted the body to the Bantwal PHC. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem.
