Kasargod, Apr 24, 2019: Technical fault in EVMs delayed polling in several booths in Kasargod constituency on April 23, Tuesday and several voters returned without exercising their franchise.

The polling started late at Karadka, Mulleriya, Mogral Puttur, Uppala, Meeyapadavu, Neerchalu, Manya, Koliyadka, Bangra Manjeshwara, and Kodoth and other areas.

Minister waits :   Revenue Minister E Chandrashekaran, who had come along with his family to exercise his franchise, waited in a queue for one hour at booth 34 at Chemnadu Koliyadka.

The polling began one hour late at Karadka Government School, Manya and Marpanadka.

The EVM had to be repaired twice at booth 92 at Mangalpady Kukkar. At booth 115 at Pilikodu Lower Primary School, the polling was delayed by two hours.

At Badiadka, the polling continued till 7.30 pm. All the voters who were standing in queue at 6 pm were given token to exercise their franchise, said sources.

Isha Kishore, the only transgender in the electoral list in the constituency exercised franchise, at Durga Higher Secondary School at Kanhangad.

Stabbing incident :  A UDF worker was allegedly stabbed in a clash held during election at Thekkil near Cherkala.

Jaleel (38) suffered stab injuries and has undergone surgery at a hospital in Kasargod. Other injured are Kasargod Block Panchayat Standing Committee President T D Kabeer and Abdul Khader Mallam.

It is said that Jaleel had objected to proxy voting, at Thekkil School, which led to the stabbing after the election.

BJP district president K Srikanth alleged that CPM workers had assaulted BJP booth agent Sandeep, at booth 132 at Kootakani near Bekal.

A woman suffered injuries when a tree fell on the polling booth following heavy rain coupled with gusty wind at Neeleshwara.
