Mangaluru, May 27, 2019: Tar deposits were again washed ashore at Panambur and Baikampady beaches on May 25, Saturday evening.

Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Yathish Baikampady told media that a lot of tar deposits in the form of soft balls are washing ashore.  “Tar sticks to feet while walking on the beach,” he added.

Tar was found scattered on the beaches in Mangaluru on April 22 and on April 25. A huge quantity of tar was found deposited along the beach.

“I strongly suspect that dredging vessels are discharging slurry. I have sent video footage to the DK DC  and environmental officers of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB),”

he said adding that a drive needs to be undertaken to prevent the incident from repeating.
