Mangaluru, Dec 26, 2015: The request of the cable operators to extend the deadline for installing digital set-up boxes by another three months has gone in vain, with the Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar issuing firm instructions to all cable operators to adhere to the deadline of December 31.
Speaking at a meeting convened at the DC office on December 26, Saturday, Kumar informed that th present analogue signals will no longer be transmitted from January 1 onwards. He also informed that the ongoing digitalisation process is the third phase and added the meeting convened in this regard a fortnight ago, had stressed the need for the cable operators to adhere to the deadline.
Earlier the cable operators made an appeal to the DC to extend the deadline stating only 65,000 set top boxes were available as against the demand for one lakh and that it would be difficult to install the same within the set deadline
The Additional DC also stated that though the request was made to the state government the same has not been extended and households without set-top boxes will no longer be able to watch different channels from January 1 onwards.
Speaking about the benefits of digitalization, he said it would provide better signal quality and also prevent tax evasion. All signal related problems will also be solved once the digital set-top boxes are installed, he said.
