Mangaluru, Mar 07, 2015:  Speaking at H1N1 flu public awareness programme organised by Highland Islamic Forum Medical Cell at Milagres Hall here on March 6,  KMC Professor of Medicine Dr Mohammed Ismail mentioned that Swine flue or H1N1 is different from other seasonal viral fevers as it can create complications in human body and even can prove fatal.

KMC Associate Professor of Community Medicine Dr Nithin Kumar said that fever, cough, sore throat, running or soft nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue weakness are the main symptoms of H1N1. Some may also have vomiting and diarrhoea, he said.

H1N1 spreads just like any other seasonal flu, mainly through respiratory droplets. Coughing, sneezing, spitting, touching respiratory droplets of H1N1 flu patient may cause the disease.

It is better to take few simple precautionary measures like closing mouth using a hand kerchief during cough or sneezing, washing hands with soap, using dry towels to clean hands, he said.

Vartha Bharathi Chief Editor Abdussalam Puthige said the glorification and underestimating of H1N1 creates confusion among general public and such situations are used to loot people. So, knowledgeable doctors, media should disseminate information to people.  Religious centres can be used for spreading knowledge, he said.

Health and Family Welfare Department District Surveillance Officer Dr Rajesh B V and others were present. The  discussions were said to be of great use.
