Sullia, Dec 31, 2014: Sullia taluk observed a total bundh on December 30, Tuesday  to protest against the  Kasturirangan Committee recommendations  to declare as many as 17 villages in the taluk as eco-sensitive areas.

Buses were off roads and shops and other business establishments downed their  The Malenadu Jana Hitharakshana Vedike, Malenadu Janti Kriya Samithi and Raitha Hitharakshana Vedike had jointly given the bundh call. Even BJP, Congress, CPI(M) and other parties had backed the bundh call.

Sullia MLA S Angara addressed a protest organised by the BJP and  said  the  government must understand the concerns of the villagers and drop the 17 villages in the taluk from the list of eco-sensitive areas.

Kishore Shiradi,  Convenor of Malenadu Hitharakshana Vedike  has alleged that the local villagers have been kept in the dark regarding the recommendations.
