Mangaluru, June 20, 2015: The police who had registered a case of suicide after the body of one Dinesh Rao (35) was found in a pond at Kellaputtige in Moodbidri police station limits on June 18, have now converted it into a case of murder after it came to light that Dinesh, a mechanic by profession in Karkala was killed by his own brothers.
The two accused namely Jagadish Rao (30), a priest in Subrahmanya and Suresh Rao (42), a shopkeeper have been arrested and produced before the court.
Dinesh, a bachelor, it is learnt used to quarrel with his brothers often under the influence of alcohol. He had resorted to a similar quarrel on June 17 Wednesday night when Jagadish and Suresh allegedly used an iron rod to hit Dinesh who immediately collapsed.
The accused then took Dinesh away after promising the other family members to get him hospitalised but instead dumped the body in a nearby pond.
The two accused had initially told the police that Dinesh who was drunk had chased them and in the process fell into the pond and died. However, the deep head injury which Dinesh had suffered had given room for suspicion and ultimately the two brothers confessed their guilt.
The two accused have been remanded to 15 days of judicial custody.
