Mangalore, Feb 18: Sudham R. Mundkur, Founder Executive and Creative Director of Magnum Intergrafiks Pvt. Ltd., passed away on Thursday, Feb 17, at a hospital in the city. He was 48.

He had been ailing for some time and had been admitted to a city hospital about three weeks back and was on the path of recovery. He was due to be discharged soon. But his health suddenly took a turn for the worse on Wednesday night and he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit. However, doctors were unable to revive him and he was put on life support. He breathed his last, late in the night on Thursday, February 17, 2011.

Hailing from Ullal-Someshwar in the outskirts of Mangalore city, Sudham R. Munkur was born on September 13, 1962. He studied at Bishop Cottons Boys School, Bangalore and St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. A multi talented personality, Sudham blossomed early exhibiting his talents in all fields during his college days itself. While excelling in studies and creative activities, he did extremely well in sports too, representing Karnataka as a member of the member of the State Students Hockey Team and represented Mangalore University in Hockey and Football.

Then on, he pursued his passion for art at Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA), Mysore, from where he acquired his BFA degree in 1990. Later, he served as a member of CAVA’s visiting faculty and often camped on the campus for long periods to teach the students.

Sudham began his career as a graphic designer in the early ‘90s by setting up Intergrafiks, an independent design studio situated at Car Street, which was then the hub of design and printing industry in the city.  At about the same time, an advertising firm called Magnum was beginning to make a name. As the new agency was in need of good creative talent, there was a natural alignment between the two entities. So in 1994 Intergrafiks merged with Magnum to become the current advertising monolith Magnum Intergrafiks. There was no looking back after that and Sudham became one of the best known admen in the city.

A quiet and reclusive person by nature, Sudham was an expert in the field of graphic design and advertising. He played a vital role in establishing Magnum Intergrafiks as a leading national advertising agency and his untimely demise will leave a void that is difficult to fill.

Sudham leaves behind his father, mother, two elder brothers, sister, wife, two sons and a host of friends and well wishers.

Sudhir P. Ghate, Chairman of Magnum Intergrafiks, S. M. Arshad, Chairman of Mohtisham Complexes Pvt. Ltd., Thumbay Moideen, Chancellor of Gulf Medical College, Prabhakar Kamath, Founder of Ideal Ice Creams, Herald Periera of Pragati Group and Yogesh Dange of GRS Fantasy Park’s are among the many who have condoled the demise of this noted personality.

Funeral: Last rites will be performed at the family residence in Saraswat Colony, Someshwar on Saturday, 19th February, 2010. The body will be briefly kept at his Gandhinagar Park residence from 9:30 to 10:30 am; followed by cremation at Boloor Crematorium at 11:00 am.
