Students Render Befitting Tributes to Martyrs

Mangalore, Nov 27: When the schools in the city were busy with their routine academic activities, students of St Mary’s Girls’ High School in the city, on Thursday, spent about two hours to reminisce the services rendered by the men in uniform, thus rendering a befitting tribute to the martyrs on the first anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks here on Thursday. Lighting of candles, audio-visual presentation, experience sharing by Kargil War Hero and quiz on national issues marked the occasion, organized in association with city-based Centre for Integrated Learning.

 

The meet began with the lighting of candles by the students along with Principal Sr. Melissa with a silent prayer, followed by a ninety-minute visual presentation on the life, work culture, training and adventures of men in uniform.

With a loud round of applause, students welcomed Subedar Joginder Singh Yadav who shared his thrilling experience of close encounters with the Pakistani armed forces during the Kargil War. He elaborated on the task assigned to his team to recapture one of the peaks held by the enemy and how they succeeded in the task. Students were thrilled when he narrated the treacherous conditions at the formidable heights, while a broad smile emerged when he told about capturing the enemy and awarding of the Vir Chakra honour by the President of India.

It was a rare sight to see that instead of sportsmen and tinsel town celebrities, the students were mobbing a soldier for autograph. The programme was part of the CIL’s Campaign Patriotism initiative, which is being held in various schools of the city.
