Kasargod, Dec 18, 2018: A sharp weapon believed to be of Stone Age has been found in an areca plantation at Kaniyala Kedukodi in Paivalike Gram Panchayat limits.
The weapon made of stone is 15 cm long and 5 cm thickness is sharp in one edge. It was found in the plantation belonging to Balakrishna Bhat on the foothills of Posadigumpe. It is believed that such stone weapons were used to dig up root vegetables and to cut meat of hunted animals. This particular stone tool is said to have similarities to the microlith stone tools
History researcher of Kanhangad Nehru College Prof Nandakumar Koroth is expected to visit the place and furnish more details regarding the weapons. As Posadigumpe area has several caves, tunnels etc the finding of this stone has aroused a lot of curiosity.
A similar stone was traced at Kodanad in Ernakulam district a few years ago and also at Kaniyala in Kasargod district.
