Local residents noticed the statue of St. Lawrence floating and  contacted the parish priest of St. Anthony’s Church, Sasthan, Rev John Walter Mendonca, who went to the spot. He  along with others, lifted the statue, weighing about 40 kg, from the river and took it to Sasthan.  The statue was then kept at the ICYM Stage on the church premises.

Later in the day, Rev Mendonca received another call stating that there was one more statue floating in the river and that it was of the Syrian priest Fr. Roque Zephrin Noronha. Rev Mendonca then contacted the authorities of the Syrian Church, who went to the spot and collected it. This statue was taken to SMS Church in Brahmavar.
