Mangalore, Nov 25: State Minister for Urban Development Suresh Kumar visited Mangalore to inspect the progress of road widening, repair, and construction projects undertaken by the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC). He visited the MCC’s waste development plant at Pachanady, Mullakad, Kuntikana, and Jyothi Circle to assess the progress of development work undertaken as per government plans. He also conducted meetings at the DC’s office, met representatives of the city at the Circuit House, and received memorandums from them. 

Speaking at a press conference organized at the Circuit House, Suresh Kumar said that the government has sectioned funds for urban development for the first time; and in most areas, the city corporations have completed the development projects. This year, the government has sanctioned Rs 100 crores for the development of Mangalore city, and the MCC has already done a lot of work. He informed press people that the government will sanction some more funds for the development of the city next year.

He also said that self-assessment schemes will be revised because they contain a number of errors. The self-assessment tax scheme will also be revised. Simultaneously, a number of legal restrictions will be placed on new constructions within city limits. Every building is expected to conform to the building acts and codes of constitution. In case of violation of these rules, the concerned MCC officer as well as the customer will be punished accordingly. Therefore, the authorities concerned as well as the customers have to check the building code and issue license property in order to avoid legal complications. All the authorities have been informed about the new building acts and codes. 


He informed that plans are afoot for getting a multi-parking system for Mangalore. As per this project, a new multi parking system will be established in Hampankatta; and also around 10 such parking lots will be constructed in the city soon. 


MCC Commissioner Dr. Vijaya Prakash, DC Ponnuraj, District In-charge Minister Krishna Palemar, MUDA Commissioner P G Ramesh, and MUDA President Dr Madhava Bhandary were also present during the conference.
