Speeding bus hits man killing him on the spot

Mangalore, May 23: One Manjayya Shetty (50) died on the spot when a speeding private bus hit him before turning turtle and injuring 7 persons, including 3 children. The accident occurred on NH48 near Adyarkatte on May 23, Monday at 4:00 p.m.









Manjayya Shetty, a farmer who was quite well-known in that area, had just got down from a bus and was crossing the road. He did not see the private bus, which was speeding toward him. The driver applied the brakes, skidded, and hit the divider before turning turtle.

The bus was plying from Mangalore to Puttur, carrying guests who were returning home to Puttur after attending a baby shower in Mangalore.

A woman has lost her arm in the accident. She, along with six other injured people, has been admitted in a hospital in the city.

B. Nagaraj Shetty, the chairman of the Coastal Development Authority (CDA), was on his way. He stopped when he saw the crowd and helped shift the injured to the hospital along with the local people. The Kankanady rural police also arrived on the spot.
