The cost of doubling of Mangalore Junction-Thokur stretch has been estimated at Rs 150 crore. Because of the hilly terrain on this stretch, the work involves deep cuttings and tunnel formation.

Another Rs 35 crore has been estimated for the doubling of railway line between Nethravathi Bridge and Mangalore Junction Railway station. The Railways is aiming to complete the work on doubling the Nethravathi Bridge by March 2011. (SteelGuru report).

Palghat division is planning a second entry for the Mangalore Central railway station. Work on the second entry will be started in three to four months and will be completed in a year’s time.

The proposed entry will house a booking counter and will have space to accommodate 100 vehicles.
