Udupi, June 13, 2016 : Badagubettu Gram Panchayat office in Udupi district has shown the way to the rest of its tribe by achieving self sufficiency in electricity by way of generating 5 KV solar energy for its own use.
For this purpose, the Panchayat has installed 20 rooftop solar panels each of 20 volts capacity with financial aid from Tapmi, Manipal.
The solar energy thus generated is sufficient to run three computers, two printers, six lights and eight fans in the Panchayat office. This in turn has helped the Panchayat save thousands of rupees towards electricity bill.
The Panchayat now has plans to install more solar panels and sell the excess power that is generated to the MESCOM.
