Mangalore, Sep 2, 2011 : The Sisters of Charity organized a seminar titled Diabetes – Prevention and Care as part of celebrating the centenary anniversary of their services at Fr. Muller Charitable Institutions in the Conference Hall, Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital, on September 1 for members of religious orders.

Dr. Sanjeeva Rai, the former dean of FMMC, and Fr. Francis Serrao, the president of Mangalore Jesuit Education Society, released a manual titled A Guide on Diabetic Diet.

Sr. Irene Jane D’Souza, the provincial superior of the Sisters of Charity Mangalore, was the chief guest of the event.

Sr. Emma Joseph, Dr. Sanjeeva Rai, St. Vincent’s Convent Superior Sr. Sylvia Fernandes, FMCI Director Fr. Patrick Rodrigues, Sr. Irene, Fr. Francis Serrao, FMMCH Administrator Fr. Richard Coelho, FMMC Dean Dr. J. P. Alva, and Organizatin Secretary Sr. Aileen Mathaias lit the traditional lamp.

In his keynote address, Dr. J. P. Alva spoke about the history and symptoms of diabetes, the silent killer, and urged all diabetics to give important to weight control, good food, and regular exercise to control the disorder.

A number of talks on diabetes formed part of the event. The resource persons were Sr. Irene D’Souza, Dr. Amith, Dr. Sudeep, Sr. Aileen, Dr. Arunachalam, and Prof. Narasimhan.
