Mangalore, Jul 2: Engraved silver plates were stolen from the doors of Koteda Babbu Swamy Temple at Mullakad on the midnight of July 1, Thursday. The temple priests, who arrived in the morning of July 2, Friday, discovered the theft and raised alarm.
The thieves had broken the entrance lock and had made off with a couple of gold chains and cash from the hundi along with the silver plates. Although the silver lining of the wooden door is difficult to remove, the thief had attempted to do so because half of it has disappeared.
According to the temple authorities, the silver plating was worth more than Rs 2 lakhs.
The Kavoor police are investigating the theft.
