Mangaluru, May 17, 2018: Hastashilpi’s Silk Expo,  will open at Loyola Hall Kodialbail in Mangaluru today May 17,  Thursday and will continue till May 21.

India is the number one producer of silk in the world for which, there is a huge demand both in the national as well as international markets. Different varieties of silk are reared based on climatic and geographic conditions of which only four namely Tassar, Eri, Mulberry and Muga are the prominent ones. Tassar and Muga are wild varieties of silk cultivated by silk worms fed on organically grown trees.

Hastashilpi Managing Director T Abhinand said that various silk saree weavers, handloom clusters and silk co-operative societies will showcase their products in the expo.

The intention of the organisation is to make the products directly accessible to the customers without the intervention of moderators between the weavers and artisans.

“Arini silk saris, crepe and georgette silk sarees, chiffon silk sarees, Tassar silk sarees and suit, Kanjeevaram silk sarees and wedding sarees, designer fancy sarees, Dharmavaram silk sarees, raw silk and Tassar, jute silk sarees, Dhaka silk sarees, handloom silk cotton sarees, silk blends sarees and stoles, silk shawls, Uppada, Gadwal, Paithani sarees, Mangalagiri and Pochampalli silk sarees and many more products from all over the country will be exhibited,” he added.

Further, there are hand block print sarees, suit and silk bed covers, designer dress materials and border, lazes, kurtis, hand woven matka and Assam Muga fabrics, Apoorva silk sarees, Baluchari, Dhaka Masli, Gicha sarees, boutique sarees, Kantha sarees, Zardosi, Lucknow chikan work sarees, Bhagalpur suits, printed silk sarees, Banarasi sarees, Reshmi plain and Butti sarees, Maheswari, Chanderi silk sarees and suit and Kota silk, Mulberry silk with temple border, Banaras Jamdani and hand-woven sarees will be on display.
