Shut down UPCL plant for 1 month, suggests Pejawar Mutt Seer

Mangalore, Mar 11: Pejawar Mutt Seer Shri Vishweshateertha Swamiji has suggested that the Udupi Power Corporation Ltd. (UPCL) should shut down its power plant at Padubidri for a temporary period of 1 month.

 

Explaining that the CM has assured that the problems of the UPCL will be solved within one month, he said that it is better to shut down the plant till its problems are completely solved.

Disclosing his intentions of calling another meeting of UPCL officials, affected people, and media persons within a week, he said that everybody will be given a chance to speak freely at the meeting. He said that the venue will be kept a secret to ensure peace and order during the discussion. The Swamiji confirmed that his only intention is to ensure that people do not have to suffer because of UPCL’s thermal power plants.

Stating that he had seen ash in the fields when he had visited the affected areas, he said that the officials of the company admitted that a leaking pipe had created this problem and that the company will replace the damaged pipe. He also said that he tasted the water, but found that it was not saline. When questioned, the residents of the area said that the water turns salty occasionally, he reported.
