Work on extracting stone for the statue has begun at a quarry in Karkala, 14kms from the spot at which the statue will be erected. The first phase of the project is now in progress thanks to the support of the members of the committee and the inmates of the ashram, admirers and well wishers, the local people, and the state government.

The site is just 23kms from Udupi and 75kms from Dharmasthala. This spectacular feat of engineering will enhance the popularity of South Karnataka as a tourist hotspot. The large monolithic statue is expected to have the power to attract visitors from all over the world.

According to sources in the ashram, there are further plans to develop a cultural, spiritual, and educational centre around the statue with the objectives of awakening youth at the global level and spreading the message of Swami Vivekananda.
