Shivaram Karanth Award conferred on Amruth Someshwar

Mangalore, October 11: The K. Shivaram Karanth award, which has been jointly instituted by the Kalkura Foundation and the DK Sahitya Parishad, was conferred on Amruth Someshwar, the renowned Kannada litterateur, during a special programme held in honour of the 180th birth anniversary of the Dr. Karanth.

Mr. Someshwar received the award from Kumble Sundar Rao, the president of Karantaka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy, and spoke in praise of Dr. Karanth. He then recited a poem written in honour of Dr. Karanth. However, he expressed regrets that not all the works of Karanth are available now.

Mr. Someshwar has to his credit a number of Yakshagana prasangas and scholarly articles on the socio-cultural practices and history of the DK district.

Kota Shivananda and H. Jayaram Shetty, the Yakshagana artistes, were also felicitated.
