Mangaluru, July 23, 2016: Outgoing Deputy Commissioner of DK District A. B. Ibrahim was hurt in a car accident which took place at Udane, Gundya near Uppinagadi 75 kms from here this afternoon.
The official Toyota Fortuner SUV in which he was travelling met with a headlong collision with a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle. The Fortuner was headed for Bangalore and Scorpio bearing Bangalore registration was speeding from the opposite direction. The incident took place at about 4:00 p.m. and resulted in traffic jam on the highway, it is learned.
While the extent of injury to A. B. Ibrahim is not known, five persons travelling in the Scorpio are said to be grievously injured. They have been rushed by 108 Ambulance Service to hospitals in Mangalore. A group of city based journalists including Jagannath Shetty Bala, President of DK Working Journalists Union, Shashi, Girish, Sunil Krishnapura and Manohar who were passing by the spot en route to Tumkur joined in the efforts to help the victims and clear the road, it is learned.
It is said that the DC was being accompanied by his wife and driver Rafiq. They were immediately taken to Mangalore for treatment.
A popular officer, Ibrahim had received transfer orders just two days back. He had been serving the district for almost three years. Ironically, he was on his way to the state capital to report for his new posting as commissioner of transport and road safety.
Dr K G Jagadeesh, an IAS officer of 2005 batch will replace him as the new DC of DK district.
Uppinangadi police are investigating the incident.
