Mangaluru, May 23, 2015 :   The district unit of the United Muslim Organisation staged a protest in front of the DC office on May 22, Friday to  pressurise the authorities to order closure of the Mangalore One School in connection with the recent incident wherein an LKG girl of the school was  reportedly sexually assaulted by the school van driver.

The protestors also demanded an apology from the school management over the incident.

Speaking during the protest, K Ashraf, former mayor and the President of the organisation  accused the authorities of turning a deaf ear to the repeated pleas for closure of the school.

He at the same time took strong exception to the failure of the school to  apologise for the incident. He further alleged that the wound certificate of the victim has been secured by the school from the hospital authorities through foul means.

Referring to a similar incident reported from Bengaluru some time back wherein action was taken against the school, Ashraf questioned why no action was taken against the Tokkottu school in a similar way.

President of Universal Welfare Forum (UNIWEF) Rafiquddin Kudroli  who also spoke  made a veiled attack on  local MLA and health minister UT Khader and alleged that  the leader had pretended  unaware about the incident which had taken place just 5 km away from his residence. “If at all any action has been taken in the case, it is because law has taken its own course,” he added.

He demanded that the school convened a press meet to tender a public apology over the incident.

Dakshina Kannada Imam Council President Jaffer Sadique Faizi  and others spoke.

As many as 40 organisations had  participated in the protest.
