Mangalore, September 6:  Retired Lieutenant, Col. Damodar Bhat has been conferred with Sevanjali’s Person of the year award by Sevanjali Charitable trust at Sri Sudhindra Hall of Lord Venkatramana Temple, Car Street here on Saturday, September 4, 2010.

Sevanjali Charitable Tuest is a voluntary youth Group, having its office at Car Street in the city, has been spearheading various service activities in different service fields like education, healthcare and providing relief to the needy.


Speaking on the occasion, Damodar said that present youth should come forward to serve the nation. Protecting nation is our main responsibility, he said.


C L Shenoy, Nithyananda Naik, Madhav Kamath Managing Trustees, Sri Venkatramana Temple,  and D Vedavyasa Kamath, president of Sevanjali Trust were present on the occasion.

Damodar Bhat
He was born in a family of priestly lineage and grew as a priest, in an environment that was religiously, culturally and spiritually rich. He had completed his earlier education from Canara High School Main (1956), and pre university education from Government College. Damodar Bhat had moved towards Belguam to study degree course. He had selected Lakkamma Gowda Science Institute, Belgaum to pursue degree course. 


As a social worker, Bhat had a great ambition of joining military services since his childhood days. He had joined military force after passing USPC exam conducted in Mumbai. He had undergone army training successfully at Dehradun in 1961 and also completed training in mountaineering with Mt Everest-fame Tenzing Norkey (1963).


As the second lieutenant in the Indian Army, he had participated in the China War (1962) actvely, and discharged responsibility as the captain (1965) at the army sector in Sialkot, managed the department of secret service (1971), and was engaged in guarding the country in sensitive sectors like Siachen Glacier.
