Security beefed up in Udupi prior to President’s visit Temple

Udupi, June 18, 2017 : Elaborate security arrangements have been made for President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to Udupi on June 18,Sunday. The city municipal commissioner, the entire Sri Krishna Mutt, Car Street, shops around the mutt, including Vidyodaya School and Bannanje Travellers Bungalow, remained closed on Saturday and till 3pm Sunday.

KT Balakrishna, superintendent of police of Udupi, said over 1,000 police personnel will be on duty near the helipad, Krishna Mutt and Kollur.

 

The Inspection Bungalow has been renovated at a cost of Rs 35 lakh. As the building did not have a generator, a new one was installed. All rooms have been well furnished. The ground floor rooms for VVIP suites (for the President and Rashtrapati Bhavan officials) were spruced up with new, modern furniture. A lot of electrical work, painting and cleaning was done, said additional deputy commissioner G Anuradha.


As the weather is bad in Udupi, the President will now travel by road from Kollur to Udupi. As per the latest schedule, the President will reach Adi Udupi helipad by 11am Sunday and will go to the IB. At noon, he’ll visit the Krishna Mutt and at 12.45pm, the foundation stone-laying ceremony will begin. At 3.40pm, he’ll visit the Kollur temple and 5.25pm, he’ll be back at the Udupi helipad to return to Mangaluru, she added.


As the President will travel by road from the city to Kollur, clearing and repairing of the state and national highways on this route are going on despite the rain.


He will visit the Mookambika temple at Kollur after his programme in the city. He’ll return after offering Sarvalankara Puja to the presiding deity of the temple. The Car Street around Kollur temple is also getting a facelift. Chief priest of the temple Narasimha Adiga will perform the puja during the visit.
