Security beefed up in Mangalore following Mumbai blasts

Mangalore, July 14, 2011:The police on Wednesday beefed up security in Mangalore, especially in its sensitive and most crowded areas, after the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai.

Seemanth Kumar Singh, the police commissioner of Mangalore, said that he has instructed officials to beef up security in the city’s most crowded places.

He said that bomb squad officials have been deputed to inspect the KSRTC Bus Stand, the railway station, Bharat Mall, and City Centre.

The police are looking out for suspicious activities in sensitive areas; moreover, night patrolling has become intense.

Police personnel were observed at the city’s entry points, checking vehicles. Luxury hotels have also been instructed to keep an eye on those who check in.

The police commissioner said that additional security measures have been taken according to the directions issued by Neelam Achuta Rao, the DG/IGP of Karnataka.
