Mangaluru, July 24, 2017: Reports confirm that the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) authorities on July 23, Sunday rescued a Philipino crew member on board the MT Kriti Sfakia after receiving a distress message for medical help  through the ships local agent.

Deputy Conservator Capt  Singh said that the distress message was received at 10.45 am from Master of MT Kriti Sfakia which was en route to Iran from Singapore. According to the Master, there was a medical emergency for Julious Clivete, a Philipino crew member aged 45 years, who suffered from severe pain in the lower right side of the abdomen, suspected to be appendicitis.

The ships Captain also informed that the ship would reach New Mangalore Port limits after 3 pm. The NMP authorities promptly responded to the distress call and arranged port pilot for medical evacuation inside the basin.

Clivete was successfully evacuated using port boat  at 5.12 pm and was shifted to A J Hospital in Mangaluru through steamer agent, Interocean Shipping Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru for treatment.
