Ujire, May 25, 2018: Now is the need of the hour to strike a balance between science and spirituality. Only then, one can achieve peace of mind, said Kuvempu University former Vice Chancellor Dr K Chidananda Gowda.
Speaking after inaugurating an international conference on ‘Recent developments in technology’ organised by the Information Technology Department of SDM College of Engineering in Ujire.
Pure joy and tranquillity will turn out to be a mirage if one chooses technology over spirituality. Peace can only be experienced with a pure mind and heart. Sages in this country have proved that spiritual uplifting could be achieved through meditation.
Delivering a keynote address, SDM Engineering College Principal Dr K Suresh said that the objective of the conference is to inspire the young students to come up with research findings which benefit the society at large. A total of 154 research papers were presented during the seminar.
Indian Institute of Technology, Dean Prof S R Mahadeva Prasanna stressed the need for the professors to encourage the students to provide solutions to the current problems in society, by applying their knowledge.
Presiding over the programme, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade said, "Too much dependency on technology has made the lives of human beings, a mechanical process. It is important that we retain humanity. One should not become slave for technology, but should choose to have control the actions which are executed through technology."
"Our lives have been elevated with the role of science and technology. Science cannot bring about brotherhood and harmony. We, the people have to strive for the same," pointed out Heggade.
SDM Education Institutions Secretary Dr B Yashovarma was present.
