School window panes shattered due to misfiring by Coast Guard personnel

Mangaluru, Feb 27, 2016: A case of misfiring by a Coast Guard personnel during a training session underway on a ground near the Government Composite High School at Moodushedde here  on February 25, Thursday, resulted in the shattering of window panes of two classrooms of the school even as classes were underway for  students of standard X and IX .   Luckily none of the students in the classroom were injured in the mishap.

It is learnt, the Coast Guard personnel were undertaking a drill at a ground which was a few meters away from the school when the incident took place.

The headmaster of the School Suresh Rao said that  taking serious cognizance of the incident which might have caused injury to the students, the school authorities contacted the Coast Guard officers who were in-charge of the training. He also  said the officer  has apologised and even  issued a letter that such incidents will not repeat. The headmaster also said in the letter that the Coast Guard has stated that the bullet first hit a tree and then moved in the direction of the school.  The  letter said  that the school was 600 meters away from the firing range of Coast Guards.

The school headmaster said a police complaint has been lodged to ensure that such  incidents do not repeat .

Meanwhile, some locals said there has been some such cases of misfiring even in the past.
