Sand trouble: BJP stages protest

Mangaluru, Sep 28,2016: The BJP organised a protest in front of the DC office here on September 27, Tuesday to protest against the sand mafia and the ’failure’ of the district administration to solve the problem faced by the common man due to the  soaring price of sand.

Addressing the protestors, former MLA Yogish Bhat alleged that the high-handed attitude of the illegal sand extractors has hit hard those people who are entitled to extract sand. He also expressed his concern over the problems faced by the thousands of people who relied on the sand extraction industry to earn a livelihood.

The construction industry is also  in trouble as  permission has not been granted for  extraction  of sand, he said  and urged for immediate remedial measures from the administration.

BJP leaders including Jitendra Kottari, Ravishanker Mijar, Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Monappa Bhandari and others participated in the protest.

A memorandum was also submitted to the Deputy Commissioner enlisting the demands of the party.
