Mangalore, Sept. 27, 2011: Mayur Ullal, the sand miners’ leader, told reporters today that the sand miners’ organizations have decided to postpone their protest against the state’s sand mining policy.
Following a meeting held in the DC’s office on September 26, a delegation of sand mining leaders led by District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar has approached the chief minister, owing to which the organizations have decided to postpone their protest, he said.
Accusing the district administration of being biased against the sand miners of coastal Karnataka, he said that they are throwing hurdles in the sand business, adding that the sand miners have the support of Mangalore Engineers and Builders Association.
Regarding illegal transportation of sand to Kerala and Goa, he said that the association is following all the laws and is not involved in any illegal activities. On the other hand, the association is against inter-state sand trade.
