Mangaluru, July 30, 2015 : A youth is feared drowned after a sand laden boat capsized in River Netravathi at Kadavinabali near Pavoor on July 29, Wednesday. If two others who were in the boat were rescued by an autorickshaw driver, two more managed to swim ashore to safety. All the five who were in the boat were members of the same family.
The missing youth is Luqman (21) from Rajagudde in Harekala. Tanzil and Badruddin, both brothers were rescued by an autorickshaw driver named Iqbal who on witnessing the mishap rushed to their help in another boat. Meanwhile, Azeez and Saleem who were also in the boat managed to swim ashore. Tanzil and Badruddin are presently undergoing treatment in hospital.
The mishap occurred when the five were returning after extracting sand near Adyar. It is said heavy winds led to the capsize of the boat.
It is learnt their family was engaged in sand extraction. Saleem is the brother-in-law of Tanzil and Badruddin while the missing youth is their nephew. The boat belonged to one Asif.
Search is on for Luqman by the fire service and police personnel.
