Saffron outfit warns missionary schools against Hindu students to celebrate X’mas

Lucknow, Dec 20, 2017 : A saffron outfit, an RSS affiliate, has warned missionary schools against ’’forcing’’ Hindu students to celebrate Christmas, calling it ’’conversion’’.

 

In a letter to the missionary schools in Uttar Pradesh’s communally sensitive district of Aligarh, about 400 km from here, the Hindu Jagaran Manch said that the Hindu students were ’’forced’’ to celebrate Christmas.

’’The number of christian students is negligible in the missionary schools....yet they celebrate the festival....they also ask Hindu students to bring items used in the celebrations,’’ the letter claimed.

The Manch said that such an activity amounted to ’’conversion’’ and could not be tolerated.

The outfit said that its letter might be considered a ’’request’’ or a ’’warning’’. ’’It depends on you (schools) how you take this letter....it can be considered a request or warning,’’ the letter said.

 

Police alert

The letter triggered an alert after some schools approached the district police. ’’We have reports about such a letter...it is being investigated,’’ said Aligarh district police chief Rajesh Pandey on Tuesday.

Police sources here said that an alert had been sounded in the state and officials had been directed to prevent any confrontation on the occasion of Christmas.

The Opposition parties slammed the letter and alleged that the saffron outfits were trying to foment tension in the state. BJP leaders, however, sought to distance themselves from the letter saying religious practices were personal matters.
