Mangalore, Oct 15: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), DK district committee, organized a protest meet in front of the DC’s office on Oct 15, Friday against the “undemocratic rule and anti-people policies” of the present state government. Karnataka State President of SDPI Abdul Majeed Kodlipate accused the BJP-led state government of murdering democracy by resorting to unconstitutional activities and scandalous acts. Further flaying the BJP in his protest speech, he said that the people have witnessed scandals ranging from sex scandals to land scams during the past two and a half years, adding that the present government is fraught with corruption.

Criticizing Speaker K. G. Bopaiah for unconstitutionally disqualifying 16 elected MLAs to save the BJP-led state government, he said that dozens of elected BJP leaders are facing criminal charges. Instead of disqualifying MLAs such as Halappa, who raped his friend’s wife, the speaker takes an unconstitutional stand and disqualifies MLAs who had the courage to oppose the Yeddyurappa’s government, he criticized.

Anwar Sadath, the member of the state committee of SDPI, urged the governor to dissolve the present government and save the people of the state from an undemocratic system.

A memorandum was later submitted to the DC V. Ponnuraj. It was addressed to Governor H. R. Bharadwaj, urging him to press for presidential rule in the state and dismiss the current government.

Mohammed Nasi, Jaleel Krishnapura, Azeez Suratkal, Saleem Guruvayanakere, and Krishnappa Sunnaje also participated in the protest.
