SDM Law College celebrates Onam

Mangalore, Sep 3, 2011 Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) Law College celebrated Onam on September 3 Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, N. K. Balakrishnan, the Kerala High Court judge, said that the celebration of Onam, which rests on a base of lofty ideals, is essential for instilling faith, security, and meaning to life.

Speaking about the significance of Onam, he said that it is celebrated in praise of Mahabali, who was extremely powerful. He also expressed his appreciation of the law students for attempting to conserve the rich traditions of the country.

Anwar Manippady, the chairman of BJP state minorities; Lakshmi Kumaran, the general manager of MRPL; and Dr. B. K. Ravindra, the principal of the college, were the chief guests. Dr. P. D. Sebastian, the president of the Onam Organizing Committee; Convener Sibi M. P. and many others also participated in this event.

An Onam Sadya, a traditional Onam feast comprising 24 delicacies such as Avil, Rasam, Kootu curry, Olan, Kalan, banana dish, 2 varieties of sweets, and 3 varieties of pickles was served to the guests.

People dressed in costumes of Mahabali, elephants, and tiger dance performances formed the highlights of the celebration.
