SC/ST meet : Non-disbursal of salaries to tribal Home Guards resented

Mangaluru, Oct 4, 2015: The SC/ST Grievance Redressal meeting held here  on October 4, Sunday witnessed some heated debate when some Dalit leaders alleged  that the  government has betrayed the 18 Home Guards of Malekudiya tribal community  by not paying their salaries.

 

The issue was raised by Dalit leaders Vittal Malekudiya and L Shekhar. District Superintendent of Police Dr Sharanappa who was present at the meeting took exception to the allegation that the government has betrayed the Home Guards of the Tribal Community. He at the same time assured to raise  the issue with the authorities concerned and settle the same at the earliest.

He also informed that the matter has  been taken up with the Deputy Commissioner by Additional SP  Vincent Shantha Kumar and Bantwal ASP Rahul Kumar.  Steps would be taken to release funds to clear the salary arrears of the Malekudiya Home Guards, he said.

The SP stated that the Rs 5 crore special package scheme   for Naxal hit areas  is  not in force now. At the same time he  added that the funds in this regard released earlier have been put to good use. When Dalit leader Shekhar alleged that the funds have been diverted, the SP questioned  why they had not raised the matter when the DC had visited the Naxal hit villages earlier.

Interacting with reporters he said, "We will be launching our Twitter handle as well as setting up a Facebook page soon." In addition, plans are also afoot to revamp the district police blog site through the district police disseminates information on crimes and other important communique to not just the netizens but also the media as well. "They will be launched during the week," Sharanappa said.
