Russian artist launches art exhibition on Bharathanatyam at Orchid Gallery

Mangalore, May 20: Russian artist Elena Fedosenko’s art exhibition titled “Bharatanatyam” was inaugurated at the Orchid Gallery in Balmatta on May 20, Friday.

Inaugurating the event, Corporation Bank General Manager B. R. Bhat said that he has seen Russian artists coming to India to display works of art based on Russia, but that he is seeing a Russian artist displaying paintings illustrating Indian culture and forms of dance for the first time.

Speaking on the occasion, Elena Fedosenko said that India has contributed a number of movies to Russia and that she would like to give a small contribution to Indian culture in the form of this art exhibition.

Stating that she has been in love with India, its colorful traditions, and classical dances ever since childhood, she said that her art exhibition is a small offering of this love.

The exhibition can be viewed till May 31

About the artist

Elena Fedosenko studied art at Moscow Pedagogical State University, where she graduated as a teacher of visual art and drawing. She later worked as a newspaper caricaturist, taught painting and color theory, and participated in a number of group shows in London and Moscow.

Bharathnatyam comprises oil paintings on canvas, acrylic, and pastel and ink on paper. Elena focuses on movements with or without color. Her work illustrates constant interaction with the figurative and the abstract. She also experiments a lot with mixing of colors and its applications.
