Suratkal, Aug 8: President of JCI Suratkal Shridar Shetty inaugurated “Kesarugadde Grameena Kreedotsava,” a rural sports event at Pragathi Nagar in Suratkal on Aug 8, Sunday. 


Speaking on the importance of rural games and village life, District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar said that rural games are symbolic of harmony. He later distributed power tillers to farmers.

A. Padmayya Naik, the joint director of the department of agriculture, said that encouraging rural games is the best way to preserve and protect culture and agriculture. He warned that selling of agricultural lands will lead to shortage of food and stressed on the importance of teaching agricultural skills to the younger generation.

3000 – 4000 people participated in various rural games such as treasure hunt, packing rice, tug of war, beedi rolling, weaving coconut leaves, kesarugadde Ota, paddana, blindfold pot breaking, planting rice saplings, and others. The sports event, which cost around Rs. 2 lakh, has been sponsored by nearly 40 sponsors.

Mayor Rajani Dugganna, General Manager of Shashi Exports Uday Kumar Shetty, DGM of MRPL Lekshmi Kumaran, President of SVSS Bank Damodar Shetty, and many other prominent people were present for the event.
