Mangaluru, Aug 1, 2015: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has informed that a Detailed Project Report for Rs 405.66 crores has been sent to the Union Government under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyothi Yojana (DDUGJY) seeking its approval for the same.
Presiding over the first review meeting under the Yojana at the DC office in the presence of MESCOM officials on August 1, Saturday, the MP said under the project villages in Mangaluru Rural, Belthangady, Puttur, Sullia and Bantwal will be electrified.
Earlier, MESCOM authorities stated that as many as 3800 houses of BPL families in the district do not have electricity supply and that these houses will be electrified under the Yojana.
He also informed that under the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) 12 sub-stations will be set up in the district and a Detailed Project Report for Rs 68.13 crore has been sent to the Union Government.
Stressing the importance of solar lighting, the MP directed officials to install solar panels in Government offices like the ZP building and DC office. He even asked private building owners to install solar panels. He said solar lighting can also be opted in villages which face power problems.
JR Lobo, MLA of Mangaluru South spoke on the need to lay underground electric cables in the city.
MESCOM officials stated that under IPDS sub-stations will come up at Sampaje, Jalsoor and Guttigar in Sullia and also in Haleyangady, Kayarthadka and Surya. Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, ZP CEO Sreevidya also spoke during the meeting.
