Rural auto men hold massive protest against denial of permit to ferry passengers to city

Mangalore, Feb 19, 2013: Hundreds of auto rickshaw drivers from rural areas under the aegis of Tulunada Rakshana Vedike staged a massive protest near the DC’s office demanding licence to ferry passengers from rural areas to the city.

Addressing the protestors, Yogish Shetty Jeppu, Founder president of Tulunada Rakshana Vedike said as places like Thokkottu, Ullal, Deralakatte, Someshwar, Kotekar, Kuthar, Konaje are within a range of 10-kms from the city, the administration must grant permission to rural auto drivers to ferry passengers from these rural areas to the city.

The demand should be immediately fulfilled in the better interests of the rural masses who are highly dependent on the city for educational and medical facilities as well as to get various government works done.

Tulunada Rakshana Vedike Working President Krishna Shetty Pilar said autorickshaw drivers from rural areas who drop passengers to any hospital in the city are booked by the police thus inconveniencing them to a great extent. He warned of severe means of protest by the Vedike if the demand remained unfulfilled.

 Krishna Gatti Someshwara, Hamid Hassan Madoor, Farooq Kinya, Salaluddin Ayub and others were present.

More than 400 auto drivers from rural areas participated in the rally taken out from Thokkottu to State Bank.
