Roshan Ferrao of Mangalore bags Ekalavya Award

Mangalore, Aug 27: Roshan Ferrao, a Mangalore based bodybuilding champion, has won the Ekalavya Sportsperson of the Year 2011 State Award. He is to receive this award from CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha on Aug 29 Monday along with 14 other award winners. 

A list of award winners includes H. M. Jyothi (athletics), Roshan Ferrao (bodybuilding), Viani Antonio D’Cunha (chess), Robin Uthappa (cricket), Amoolya Kamal (football), Jeeva Kumar S. (Kabaddi), Naveen S. (karate), Santhosh C. R. (kho kho), Poojashree Venkatesha (tennis), Nethravathi V. (power lifting), Sharanya Mahesh (roller skating), Shubha Chittaranjan (swimming), T. D. Ravikumar (volleyball), C. P. R. Sudhir Kumar (weight lifting), and P. Somashekar (specially abled athlete). 

M. S. Madegowda and P. S. Vishwanath have bagged the lifetime achievement awards. 

About Roshan Ferrao

Roshan Ferrao has a number of national and international awards to his credit. In 2000, he won a gold medal in the Asia Pacific Bodybuilding Championship, which was held in New Zealand. He also bagged the 10th place in the Mr. World competition held in Germany during the same year, 6th place in the Mr. Universe competition held in France in 2011, 7th place in the Mr. Universe competition held in Spain, and second in the Indo Pak Peace and Friendship Bodybuilding Championship held in Islamabad in 2004. 

His list of awards include the Bharath Udaya in 1999, Bharath Kishore in 2000, Bharath Shreshta in 2000,01, 02, and 03, along with five Vidyuth Shree awards and 4 Bharath Shree awards. 

He also won the gold medal in the All India Inter State Electricity Board’s Tournament held at Raipur in Chattisgarh in Feb 2009.
