Mangaluru, June 23, 2017: A daring attempt of daylight robbery at the Kotekar Agricultural Service Co-operative Bank branch at K C Road here on June 23, Friday was averted with the great presence of mind of a few staff of the bank.
Sources said the robbers who arrived by a bike had entered the bank when only three employees were present while others had left for the Friday prayers. They had wielded knife and pushed all the three into the toilet and locked the door from outside.
It is said the robbers filled the gold from the locker in a sack. Luckily, one of the staff in the toilet managed to break the toilet door in the nick of time just when the robbers were all set to flee.
They had even sat on their bike with the booty when one of the employee hurled a large stone at the bike rider and another hurled another stone at the pillion rider. Fearing their lives, the two fled the place leaving behind the booty.
ACP Shruthi, Ullal Inspector Gopalakrishna and other police officials have visited the bank branch. Investigations are underway.
