Roadside parking is a curse for city motorists

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Mar 19, 2015:  On most evenings and specially weekends, the road from Corporation Bank head office towards Rosario Church turns into a night mare  for motorists and also pedestrians.  Two way traffic, parking  on both sides and  street vendors and particularly heavy trucks from Bundar goods-shed,  around new Forum Mall on this narrow road which is badly worn,  leaves no space and in a grave hazard.

Not only is traffic blocked  but  it is  dangerous too. Several  members of the public  have  represented to the police and corporation et...to  resolve the problem pointed out many regulars.  A similar problem is seen around  Rao and Rao Circle.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Uday Nayak said they were working on a solution,  but these are not busy road. There are several other roads in the city where motorists have been facing problems because of parking of vehicles by the roadside.   One of them is the stretch from Balmatta Junction to Hampankatta junction.

The police have taken action to prevent blocking the traffic in some areas. The police barricaded the space near Manorama Hotel on K.S. Rao Road a few days ago where parking of two-wheelers obstructed vehicle movement.

Recently there was an accident between an incoming city bus and a two-wheeler that turned right, coming down the road adjoining City Centre Mall.  Many cases were booked for  vehicles parked in that space recently. Now the space is  barricaded the AC said.
