The protestors initially tried to prevent private vehicles from moving on the road, but police intervention prevented this. Over 300 city, service, and inter-state buses stayed off the roads yesterday, demanding immediate repair of the roads. KSRTC buses did not ply to Kasargod from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon, because the protestors blocked the roads.

Ivan D’Souza, the president of Naukarara Sangha, said that they did not have to gherao the NH offices as planned because the officials arrived on the scene to meet them. He said that there will be a district bandh if the roads were not repaired immediately. D’ Souza also said that he will file cases against the NH officials on behalf of accident victims if they failed to meet the deadline.

Mangalore MLA U. T. Khader inaugurated the protest rally at Nanthoor at 9:00 a.m. President of Bus Owners’ Association Rajavarma Ballal, President of Mangalore Bar Association S. P. Chengappa, President of DK Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Annayya Kulal, members of the Tulunadurakshana Vedike, priests of the Mangalore Diocese, NSUI office bearers, members of the MCC, and many others participated in the protest rally.
