Renowned writer shares his experiences at literary convention

Mangalore, Mar 19: The Post Graduate Alumni Association and SDM College of Business Management jointly organized the university-level 7th students’ literary convention in the auditorium of SDM College of Business Management on March 19, Saturday. Vasudendra, a short story writer based in Bangalore, inaugurated the event.

Expressing his delight that a number of students are taking interest in Kannada literature, he spoke of the advantages of using computers to produce and preserve literature. Speaking of the pains of losing a literary manuscript, he said that using computers ensures that one will never lose one’s literary output.

Sharing his experiences as a writer, he said that everybody has his/her own skills, techniques, and styles of writing. Writers must write with deep understanding of others pain so that their writings become more effective, he added. Admitting that all writers begin a book wondering if they will ever finish it, he said that writing is never an easy task.

The chief guest of the occasion was Dr. K. Devraj, the principal of SDM College of Business Management.

Delivering the presidential address, Sadanand Suvarna, the national award winning film director, said that modern technology can be used for one’s highest good. Recalling that the advent of the television made theatre artistes insecure, he said that the television is a very important part of people’s lives at present. He also regretted the large number of commercial movies flooding the industry, adding that surveys have revealed that just 1 – 2 percent of the movies made at present are of good quality.
