Mangaluru, Aug 03, 2017: The first Redemptorist parish in Mangalore diocese at Saverapura of Moodbidri deanery was in celebration mode on August 1, Tuesday; the occasion of the silver jubilee celebration of chapel and parish, and inauguration of the newly built parish house by Redemptorist Community of Nithyadhar Nivas, Alangar.
Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangaluru diocese, along with MLA Abhayachandra Jain, inaugurated the newly built road of the church. This was followed by the presbytery inauguration by Fr Ivel Mendanha, CSSR, vice-provincial superior, vice province of Majella, Mumbai.
THe e solemn Jubilee mass by bishop Aloysius as the main celebrant with more than 40 priests of Moodbidri deanery and many Redemptorist guest priests concelebrated it. Parishioners of Saverapura actively participated in the liturgy and gave thanks to the Lord for the fruitful 25 years.
The person of the day and responsible for the development of Saverapura, Fr Eugene D’Silva, was honoured with title ’Saverapuracho Suryo’. The bishop was specially honoured on occasion. The bishop dutifully lauded the Redemptorist contribution for the overall development of Saverapura. All concerned were felicitated.
Stage programmes that followed presided over by bishop Aloysius with guests were Fr Paul Sequeira, dean of Moodbidri deanery, parish priest Fr Rakesh Mathias, Redemptorist rector Fr Eugene DSilva, founder parish priest Fr Mathias Pereira, Belvai panchayat president Bhaskara Acharya, parish council vice-president Vincent D’Souza and secretary Severene Crasta. It was nostalgia and gratitude over flowing.
Parish priest Fr Rakesh welcomed the guests. Vincent DSouza proposed the vote of thanks. Vishal Colaco and Janer Rodrigues compered the programme. The breaking of bread by all present was a welcome arrangement by all parish members.
