Mangalore, May 11, 2012 : Ramanath Rai, the Congress MLA and president of the DK District Congress Committee (DKDCC), expressed confidence that the Congress will emerge victorious in the elections for the south west teachers and graduate teachers constituencies of the legislative council to be held on June 10.

Addressing reporters on May 11 Friday, Mr. Rai said that the Congress has a very good chance of winning.

Commenting on the BJP’s statements that the state government has earmarked large sums of money for education, he said that 75 percent of the funds allotted for education in the state come from the central government, given through various grants. He further said that the central government has introduced 25 percent reservation for financially backward sections of society because it gives top priority to education.


Stating that the BJP is now fraught with internal conflicts, he said that the Congress is united and faces no internal problems.


He also said that Congress candidates S. P. Dinesh of Shimoga (graduates teachers constituency) and Hosur Ramesh Joyappa of Madikeri (south west teachers constituency) will emerge victorious.


A number of prominent Congress members such as Vinay Kumar Sorake, the secretary of the All India Congress Committee; MLA Abhayachandra Jain; Vijayakumar Shetty, the former MLA; Ivan D’Souza, the secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee; Mayor Gulzar Banu; Mamatha Gatty; Ashraf, the former mayor of Mangalore, and many others such as Suresh Ballal, T. K. Sudhir, Shashidhar Hegde, and others were present.
