Mangalore, April 5: The 104th birth anniversary of Ram Babu Jagjivan, the national leader and former deputy prime minister, was celebrated at the Nethravathi Auditorium of the Zilla Panchayat on April 5, Tuesday.

B. Nagaraj Shetty, the chairman of the Coastal Development Authority, said that Mr. Jagjivan’s life should be a source of inspiration for all. He said that Jagjivan was born into a poor family and rose to the position of deputy prime minister through sheer hard work and determination. He urged everybody from the SC/ST communities and other underprivileged sections of society to draw inspiration from the life of this late leader. 


Expressing his appreciation of Jagjivan, MLA U. T. Khader said that he was a man of few words and plenty of action, who organized programmes to eradicate hunger and helped students pursue higher education. 


MCC Commissioner K. N. Vijayaprakash, Assistant Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalakatti, and Mamatha Gatti, the former ZP president, were also present.
